Day 8 & 9: School

This Thursday and Friday the Knoch students went to classes with their German partners.  For the most part, the classrooms are simpler than the classrooms we are used to at home.  Instead of the students moving from classroom to classroom for the different classes, the teachers move.  This is one of the reasons why the rooms look much simpler and don't have decorations or "class rules" hanging on the walls.

Some of the German students go to an in school internship for part of the week.  It is similar to our Vo-Tech. The classrooms look like they would in a college or university, very simply designed and supplied with what you need to study art or technology.  The Knoch students were able to participate in the different internships.  On Thursday students went to the wood carving class and metals room, and on Friday some students went to the photography studio.  (Prisca Edwards)

The metals class

Peter and Nick work on carving a design into a block of metal

Zach drills holes into block of metal to make dice.

German student Tobias continues working on one of his projects.

Thomas helps his Knoch exchange partner Nick with one of the metal machines.

"not firewood"
Shawna and Katie joined the wood shop class.

A teacher helps Katie with her design.

Shawna prepares her piece of wood for carving.

Katie smooths the rough edges on her wood piece.

Shawna, Peter, and I stopped at the photography studio on Friday.

Shawna learns how to edit photos after a photo shoot.

The Mayor of Weiden gave the American students tickets to go to the indoor water park (Weidner Thermenwelt) for an afternoon.  It was wonderful to have a chance to relax and swim together after long days of being a tourist and an exchange student.
